Project Idea: Bike GPS

This post is to document a project idea I had as I often start things and then come back to them months later and forget where I was up to last time.

My project is designing and building a GPS ride tracker for bikes at a price point lower than the regular products being around $200+ AUD.

Feature list

Essential

• Record GPS coords and store them on local storage.
• Show live stats on display (Speed, Distance, Avg Speed).
• Allow exporting of GPS logs as GPX files.

Desirable

• Allow extracting of gpx files wirelessly.
• Connect to internet to automatically upload files.

Maybe?

• Import routes and display them on screen
• Show distance remaining

First design plan

To start I’m making something as basic as possible and using most of the parts I already have

Parts list

• Freetroinics Eleven (Uno compatible)
• Display LCM KS0107+KS0108
• I2C Graphic 128x64 LCD Adapter (Just to simplify wiring)
• Generic lipo battery
• GPS module (model to be picked later)
• Micro SD module

Not a whole lot of thought has been put in to which parts to use. These will be changed in later stages when I work out exactly what will be needed.
